Expert International Speakers, Speech Language Therapist Gina Conti-Ramsden and Developmental Psychologist Kevin Durkin are coming to Australia in February and March 2015.

Limited places are available for their two day event focusing on language difficulties in children. Professors Conti-Ramsden and Durkin are world leading scientists who bring years of expertise and their specific interest in both clinical practice and research. The will share their knowledge with you and use videos, case studies, and discussions to develop your practical skills and strategies to use in the clinical setting and classroom.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Language Difficulties - terminology, diagnosis, assessment & intervention strategies 

  • Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and language difficulties - links, overlaps and differences 

  • Developmental trajectories - How language difficulties change from childhood to adolescence 

  • The IQ problem: Nonverbal skills in children with Language difficulties

  • Social, emotional and behavioural difficulties: Problems at different stages of development for children with language difficulties 

  • IPADS / APPS / New media and children with Language difficulties - what do they mean for these children? 

Learning outcomes of the workshop:

    • To build a developmental framework for assessment and intervention of language difficulties from early childhood to adolescence

    • To know what are the red flags that need to be targets of intervention

    • To determine the key principles that identify and differentiate Language difficulties vs. ASD in early childhood, middle childhood and adolescence

    • To predict who is most at risk of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and learn what to target in intervention, with whom, and why

    • To understand the impact of the digital world for language, literacy and educational attainment

    • To know the benefits of professional therapy, and how you can shift educational outcomes of young people with language difficulties.
